Brisbane’s Best Bakeries 2023
Brisbane boasts an abundance of delicious bakeries. From rustic loaves to cream-filled cruffins & danish delicacies, you’re bound to find something that hits the spot. Or, if it’s savoury you’re after, you’re in luck, as I’ve also tracked down a few specialities. Here are just a few of what I consider the best bakeries in Brisbane (in no particular order).
Agnes Wood-fired Bakery is housed in a gorgeous heritage-listed cottage on the corner of James and Harcourt Streets in New Farm.
Weekly specials include:
- Lemon Meringue Kouign Amann
- Honeycomb & Almond Danish
- Date & Walnut Caramel Scroll
- Mocha Doughnut
- Potato & Rosemary Danish
Just to name a few! They also bake delicious artisan breads, bagels & a selection of other tasty treats. All are baked over an open fire, home-made from scratch daily.
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday from 7am to 2pm and weekends from 7am to 3pm.

DARVELLA PATISSERIE
Darvella is a Patisserie worth crossing the river for! Their display is such a feast for the senses! From their gorgeous hand-crafted baby cakes (pictured below) to flaky pastries & savoury delights -you are sure to find a delicacy or two. In fact, I dare you to stop at just one! Oh, and they make pretty good coffee as well!

SPROUT ARTISAN BAKERY
Hand-crafted & steeped in tradition, Sprout produces some of the finest artisan breads and pastries around. Conveniently located in James Street, Sprout has drawn quite a crowd since becoming a permanent fixture in 2021. A must-visit!

- Seasonal Fruit Danish
- Raspberry Brioche Crumble
- Almond Croissant
- Cinnamon Bun
- Berry Croissant
Sprout also serves a selection of amazing savoury tarts, pastries & sourdough loaves.

CHRISTIAN JACQUES ARTISAN BOULANGER
Another amazing patisserie that I’d cross the river for! Love love the Ham & Cheese Croissants! All of their croissants are slowly fermented over two days using premium French butter. The flavours, texture and layers are what sets these authentic French croissants apart.
Weekly specials include:
- Kouign Amann
- Croissant baked with crème pâtissière and topped with either raspberry, blueberry or apricot fruits.
- MILLEFEUILLE
- Chocolate Eclair
- Lemon Meringue Eclair
In addition, Christian Jacques also serves up delicious savouries, quiches & long fermentation process authentic French method baked breads.

LUNE CROISSANTERIE
Famous for their traditionally made, three-day, lovingly prepared French croissants, Lune has quickly become one of Brisbane’s best bakeries! Serving up morning buns, lemon curd cruffins (yum), as well as Pizza Escargot!
